Renovated School of Government Unveiling
The School of Government renovation is complete, and a soft opening was held on April 2. The grand opening is scheduled for Homecoming and Parents’ Weekend October 14–17, 2021.
On-campus students, faculty, and staff were able to “Pop on By” for the soft-opening event—complete with social distancing and individual packages of gourmet popcorn. Attendees got to walk the halls, check out the new classroom spaces, offices, and brightly lit gathering areas, take in the view from the Trustees’ Terrace, and grab their popcorn on the way out.
The renovated spaces will serve as a new crossroads for the College community. After more than 50 years of service, the original School of Government building has received a complete refresh through the renovation of about 9,500 square feet of existing space and partial new construction (7,975 square feet). Key features include:
- Updated spaces for administrative and student support services
- Offices and conference spaces designed for collaboration
- Tech-ready classrooms with flexible space
- Outdoor patio area for community gatherings
- Soft spaces for socializing, studying, and collaborative work on each floor
- A striking, highly visible entrance that welcomes visitors to campus
- Elevators and other equipment to make the entire building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act
The April event included live music from the College’s Jazz Band, and College President John Williams thanked outgoing Director of Facilities Paul Lehr for his years of service to Principia.
