Last Chance to Sign Up for Summer Session
Learn something new this summer or dive deeper into a subject you love. With more than 45 courses to choose from, you’ve got lots of options! Summer Session runs July 14–28; you may attend one week or two. Don’t delay, though—registration ends this Monday, July 9.
Summer Session takes place on the beautiful Principia College campus, featuring views from the edge of the Mississippi all the way to downtown St. Louis. And the educational vistas are even more scenic! Enjoy exceptional classes and special events to spark your love of learning; there's plenty of time to stroll through the woods or relax on the Chapel Green, too.
Here are brief descriptions of a couple of the courses offered this summer:
Kingdoms of Southeast Asia Faculty: John Williams Get better acquainted with Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Burma, five unique nations whose histories and cultures intertwine. Learn about the background of these nations and discuss current events in the region. (If you're going on Principia's Mekong River Cruise in December 2013, this course would be a great way to jumpstart your exploration of the area.)
Trusting Truman Faculty: Howard Bay Though Truman wasn't very popular by the end of his presidency, historians now rank him as a near-great president. Find out how Truman’s Midwestern values guided him in some of the most difficult decisions facing any president in modern times.
The Book of Revelation Faculty: Helen Mathis What was going on almost 2000 years ago that generated such an utterly unique book of the Bible, and what do we make of its many images today? Explore these questions in light of Bible scholarship and contemporary readings.
Along with classes, enjoy morning Chapel talks and nightly entertainment. Among this summer’s evening offerings are a cello concert by alum Ashley Garritson (US’99) and a salute to John Denver by tribute artist Roy Rivers.
