Upper School Online Biology Accepting Students
For the third year running, Principia Upper School will be offering a for-credit online biology course for high school students. The 2014–2015 course is available for full-year (one credit) enrollment or as stand-alone units of study for students wishing to be exempt from specific topics in their current biology curriculum.
This interactive, community-based, online lab course will be taught by Upper School science teacher Lynne Scott, who holds an MS from the University of Illinois and has delivered numerous online courses at the college level.
At Principia, studying biology means exploring how living organisms function. Our approach highlights the function of life rather than dysfunction, which is so often the focus of public, private, and home-school courses. All lessons are ecology based, using the natural world to explore ecosystem dynamics, cellular structure and function, genetics and evolution, and the diversity of living organisms. While our curriculum is based on National Science Education Standards, Christian Science underpins all discussions and activities and serves as the basis from which students become scientific thinkers and informed citizens.
