Boys’ Soccer Wins State Championship
In a 3–2 comeback victory, the varsity boys’ soccer team clinched the Class 1 State Championship against St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia. Their first championship since 2015, it was sweeter than ever in light of last year’s loss during penalty kicks.
Refusing to be rattled by St. Paul getting onto the scoreboard just 63 seconds into the game, Principia kept their opponents’ scoring to a minimum and tied the game 1–1 toward the end of the first half, with senior Diego Alas scoring the point. Once again in the second half, St. Paul pulled ahead and then Principia tied the game 2–2, this time with a goal by junior Cade Pecheck. Senior Kian Murphy then scored the game’s final point on a free kick, giving Principia the championship.
