A research scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, Dr. Ben Santer visited the College campus recently to talk with instructor Nick Johnson's (C'04) sustainability classes. In that setting, Santer dove into the science behind global warming, explaining how technological advances are helping scientists sort out natural warming factors from man-made ones.
In addition, Principia co-sponsored an evening talk in Alton that was open to the public. Santer makes a point of getting out of academic circles to connect with people from different walks of life. In talks like the one in Alton, demystifying the work scientists do is one of Santer's main goals. See a write-up of Santer's visit.
