Student-Athletes Post Wins at District Competitions
It’s been a great week for post-season athletics competition—on the national stage and right here at Principia School. On the same weekend that the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, the Principia Panthers also posted some notable wins.
On the last Saturday in October, the School hosted two District games—for football and soccer—with the Panthers winning both in shutouts! And that same morning, our cross country runners competed impressively at an away District meet, resulting in four students qualifying for State.
On the Mesa field, the boys’ soccer team was crowned District champs before a cheering home crowd, with a 7–0 victory over Brentwood. This is only the third time in Upper School history that boys’ soccer has won District finals. The last time they did so—in 2015—they went on to win the State championship! This year’s team has its sights set on the same goal, as it heads into the State quarterfinals in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, November 3, against Saxony Lutheran.
Soon after the boys’ soccer win—on the opposite side of campus before another cheering crowd urged on by the Principia cheer squad—our football team brought home their first District playoff win in 10 years! The 42–0 victory over Herculaneum set them up for a semifinal against Lift for Life Academy this weekend on the School turf field.
Meanwhile, about 25 miles away, our cross country girls and boys competed at Districts under perfect running conditions—cool weather and blue skies! Four runners qualified for the State cross country meet, which will be held in Jefferson City this coming Saturday. Freshmen Rex Heath and Wyatt Pashia and sophomore Taine Dry qualified for the boys’ State meet, and senior Lindsey Huffman qualified for the girls’ State competition for the second consecutive time.
With three great competitions going on, Panther fans will face a tough choice about which events to attend—but we know our student-athletes will feel their support, wherever they’re playing.
