Student-Athletes Wrap Up Successful Season
Despite a cold, wet start to the season, Upper School athletes doubled down on training and practice across all sports—and the results of this hard work were evident in victories large and small, on the scoreboard and in character.
Both the track and field and girls’ soccer teams journeyed all the way to State-level competition—bringing home several top-three finishes.
For the soccer girls, this required quick work developing as a new team, given the departure of numerous 2017 graduates last spring and the addition of many new players this year. After a convincing win in Districts, the girls played hard to get to the State soccer finals and brought home second place. (They lost 2–0 to the reigning champions, St. Vincent.)
At the State track and field meet, our runners turned in several notable performances.
Junior Siwa Asinga earned gold, silver, and bronze medals:
- First place in 300m hurdles
- Second place the 100m dash
- Third place in the 200m dash
Junior Lindsay Huffman ran in the 3,200m race, placing 13th.
The boys placed as follows:
- The 4x800m relay team—seniors Chris Mwaura and Boone Steele, junior Nathan Babcock, and sophomore Bramwell Havi—took the gold, with a time of just under eight minutes.
- Senior Simon Karega placed 3rd in the 3,200m race.
- Junior Nathan Babcock finished 6th in the 800m race.
On the baseball diamond, the boys had their first winning season in years, making it all the way to District finals. They came home with second place in Districts, being bested by Valley Park (a team they had defeated earlier during regular-season play).
