Robby Butler Chosen as Lincoln Academy Student Laureate
Each year, Principia College nominates one senior for the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award based on leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. Those selected from colleges and universities across Illinois will become Student Laureates of the Lincoln Academy and take part in a gathering at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, later this month. Robby Butler (US’14), a business administration and theatre double major, is this year’s Principia College Lincoln Academy Student Laureate.
Robby has served in various campus leadership roles as Student Body Vice President, Christian Science Organization President and Reader, Senior Class Representative, and Resident Assistant. He has played rugby all four years, serving as team captain for two, and has earned level 200 USA Rugby Coaching Certification. The summer after his sophomore year, Robby worked at Barrington Stage Company as a development intern, planning events and cultivating relationships with patrons. This past summer, he interned at Washington University’s Alumni and Development Department, where he worked on fundraising, prospect research, and gift acknowledgement.
In spring 2017, Robby received an Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Nomination for his role in Godspell and will compete at the regional festival of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival at the University of Indianapolis in January. He is also a frequent participant in Principia’s Leadership Institute activities and is a leadership certificate candidate.
