Shontee Pant Named Lincoln Academy Student Laureate
Each year, Principia College nominates one senior for the prestigious Lincoln Academy Student Laureate Award based on overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities. Selected from colleges and universities across Illinois, the laureates take part in a gathering at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, in November. Shontee Pant, a political science and history double major, is this year’s Principia College Lincoln Academy Student Laureate.
After her freshman year, Shontee interned at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC, and returned the following summer as a legislative fellow. This summer, she interned at The Christian Science Monitor in Boston, writing articles for both print and digital platforms. An avid runner, Shontee has been on the cross country and indoor track and field teams all four years, serving as team captain her junior and senior years.
For her senior capstone, Shontee is researching education as a human right, writing a comparative analysis of the international legal implications of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1954 Brown v. Board ruling which declared school segregation to be unconstitutional. She is a member of the Phi Alpha Eta Honor Society.
