School Alum Performs for Royalty
What do Principia Summer Sessioners and Prince Charles have in common?
This past summer, they both had the pleasure of attending performances by accomplished jazz pianist (and School alum) Stephanie Trick!
Just about a month after performing for 2014 Summer Session attendees in Principia College’s Cox Auditorium (pictured above), Trick (US’05) participated in the renowned Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival in Scotland. The Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, joined the audience at a special festival event hosted by musician and BBC2 radio presenter Jools Holland in the atmospheric seventeenth-century Tron Kirk.
Holland, founder of the 1970s band, Squeeze, refers to Trick as “the greatest stride pianist living today.” Trick performed solo and then played duets with Holland as well as her husband, Italian jazz pianist Paolo Alderighi, before being introduced to the royal couple.
In addition to performing at the College, Trick and Alderighi have also performed on several occasions on the St. Louis School campus, including benefit concerts in support of Peace Haven Association, a local Christian Science care facility.
Enjoy a photo of her in conversation with the prince and duchess (which appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch) and read more about the Edinburgh performance as reported in The Daily Mail.
