Convocation Gets Semester Off to a Strong Start
Students, faculty, and staff gathered in Cox Auditorium for winter convocation on January 30. Following readings by senior Gustavo Batista, Principia President Dr. Jonathan Palmer officially welcomed everyone back to campus for spring semester.
Dr. Palmer asked members of Principia’s solar car team to come on stage and be recognized for their sixth place finish in the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge. He also commended the mediation team for their first and second place finishes at the International Intercollegiate Mediation Championship in Gainesville, Georgia, where team members earned individual honors as well. Sharing athletic highlights, Dr. Palmer noted strong academic achievements by student athletes. Lastly, he announced that Graham C. Grady, a partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, will be the 2015 commencement speaker on Saturday, May 9, in Cox Auditorium.
At the heart of winter convocation were four talks by senior Molly Glascock and juniors Geoffrey Hibbs (pictured above), Deanna Scheck, and Sergio Zapata Cornejo—all of whom focused on this year’s metaphysical theme: ". . . love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matthew 22:39). The speakers drew from individual experience to share their practice of Christian Science.
